Save the date for the next Art on the Prom Sunday 1st Sept 2024

Save the Date! After a successful return to Felixstowe Promenade in 2023 we have fixed a date for 2024. Pop it in your diary.

As a small team who work seasonally on this project we are unable to respond to all requests for information until the late Spring 2024, when applications will open for AOTP 2024.

All existing artists on our mailing lists will be sent information as it arises. If you are new to Art on the Prom and would like to be informed of when applications open, please join our mailing list by submitting your email address in the footer.

What is Art on the Prom?

Art on the prom began its journey 2002 and this year will be its 17th active year. Thanks to the continued efforts of Nichola Adams, Kate Cain from Visit Felixstowe/Felixstowe BID and the events team at East Suffolk Council, Art on the Prom has found a new producer Art Eat Events whose co-director Iona Hodgson has reinstated the legendary event, which took place on the 2nd September 2023 and attracted over 12000 people, generating approximately £45,000 revenue sales for the participating traders.

The new town-wide free Love Felixstowe festival also took place over the same weekend and was designed as a celebration of Felixstowe for residents and visitors alike. The festival program included music, street entertainment, street food, activities for all the family, as well as Art on the Prom in its usual position along the seafront. This collaboration resulted in additional footfall to Felixstowe over the weekend, and organisers felt that both events complimented each other perfectly bringing the much missed art bonanza back at a perfect time. Art on the Prom benefited from additional promotion and inclusion in the festival program. The idea for the future is that both events can run side-by-side each September moving forward.

How to get involved as an artist or craft make

Art on the Prom will be accepting applications from artists and craftspeople who wish to exhibit and sell their work at this popular event from the Spring 2024. The organisers encourage anyone who makes art or crafts and would like to sell work, gain exposure, meet fellow creatives and customers alike to apply. The organisers are particularly interested in bringing in some of the younger creative talent in the area to support budding artists and crafters as well as the more established ones.
Art on the Prom 2023 was as always, based on Heras Fencing panels placed along the promenade from the pier to the Spa Gardens. For 2024 large numbers of applications are expected and prices are being adjusted in line with realistic costs. Art on the Prom expects a very high footfall due to the existing legacy, so get your application in early.

More information about the event

Art on the Prom is being co-produced by Iona Hodgson through local community arts organisation Art Eat Events and freelance producer Nichola Adams who are breathing life back into this wonderful, vibrant and successful event for the benefit of the local communities of artists and art lovers alike. As a producer, Iona has managed and curated various high quality exhibitions and art fairs in Ipswich and Colchester through her businesses At Large Ltd and Art Eat Events including The Secret Art Fair, Suffolk Jewels, The Art and Print Fair at Art Eat Festival and Art at the Altar. The 2023 event has been made possible thanks to support from East Suffolk Council, Felixstowe Town Council, Felixstowe BID and generous support from our first 2023 sponsor Goldstar Transport, a locally based national container transport company who are keen to support the town and give back to the local community. See our Supporters page for more information.

AOTP remains a standalone business and with a not-for-profit remit meaning that any gains made after covering costs will be reinvested into future events and this year looks to be the beginning of a new era of success for all involved.
