2010 Event : September 5th

This Year will be the sixth annual Art On the Prom

Art on the prom is a contemporary Art Fair where professional and hobby artists display and sell original work. It takes place on Felixstowe's popular sea front promenade where the setting adds an extra dimension. Last year's event featured 85 artists covering a wide range of media and attracted an estimated 20000 people.    Artists can also show examples of their work on the Studio section of this website.

As well as the opportunity to browse or buy original artworks, the Art in the Gardens workshops which run throughout the day, provide young and old with the opportunity to have a go at creating their own piece in one of the many media available.   These include painting, tie-dye, decorative art and willow sculpting.

A variety of professional bands and entertainers perform throughout the day to add to the enjoyment of the occasion.   In 2010 we featured Felixstowe bands Alex Body and Silk and Steel and singer/songwriter Tom Sleep as well as london based singer Anita Maj.   The award-winning Ipswich and Norwich Brass Band entertained crowds in the afternoon whilst throughout the day the Suffolk Youth Jazz Group played and the popular barrel organ was to be found by the Victorian shelter.

Did you know that before the event Art on the Prom artists hold workshops in local schools.   In 2010 this resulted in an exciting display of flags in the Spa Gardens.   Children form the following schools partocipated:- Colneis Junior, Fairfield Infants, Langer Primary, Belstead and Heathside Special Schools.   Clay fish made by students at Orwell High School were also on display.

Another exciting feature was the beach installation by students from University College, Suffolk.

In 2011 Art on the Prom will be held on Sunday September 4th from 10am to 4pm and is free to the public.

Art on the Prom is supported by grants from local councils and organisations as well as sponsorship from local businesses. It is a non-profit making organisation which aims to promote economic well-being, provide cultural and leisure opportunities and foster a pride in our community.
